Atwater Footbridge

The Atwater Market, one of Montreal's favorite and well-known public markets, is an ideal spot for shopping for fresh food, spices, pastries, or just buying a few picnic items to enjoy by the water, as it’s situated just next to the Lachine Canal path. One can easily spend an entire day walking or cycling along the Lachine Canal's green banks. The Canal's bike path spans 29 kilometers and the scenery is gorgeous: green and full with historical landmarks of Canada's industrial revolution. On a sunny day, the Atwater pedestrian bridge is such a busy passageway for cyclists and pedestrians that the presence of cyclists there is one of the most impressive of any other part of the city. Capturing one single moment of people crossing the bridge with the iconic background of the Atwater Market's Art Deco building and clock tower is a typical scene of this area.
